Little Paws Woodcote is a small, independent, home-based cat rescue run by one individual with one simple purpose: to help cats and kittens who have found themselves stray, abandoned or without a safe place to go.

​

The rescue was created from a genuine desire to help animals at a time when we are seeing a growing crisis of stray and abandoned pets. More and more cats and kittens are finding themselves without the care, safety and support they need, while rescue spaces remain incredibly limited.

​

Little Paws Woodcote opened in October 2024 and has already helped over 200 cats and kittens.

​

This is not a large organisation with a team of staff or a purpose-built rescue centre. It is one person, working from home, doing what they can to make a difference to the lives of cats and kittens who need help.

​

Little Paws Woodcote is not a registered charity. The rescue is privately run and funded through the kind and generous donations of the LPW community.

Every cat matters, and every cat deserves a chance.

Our Mission

The work of Little Paws Woodcote centres around three simple principles:

Rescue

Providing a safe space for stray and abandoned cats and kittens who have nowhere else to go.

Rehabilitate

Giving each cat the time, care, veterinary attention and support they need to recover and prepare for life in a loving home.

Rehome

Finding the right forever home for each individual cat or kitten based on their personality, needs and circumstances.

The aim is not simply to move cats through the rescue as quickly as possible. It is to make sure they are properly cared for and that the home they eventually go to is the right one for them.

 

Veterinary Care

The health and welfare of every cat and kitten is a priority.

​

All cats and kittens coming through Little Paws Woodcote receive a veterinary health check and are provided with the appropriate care they need.

​

This includes:

• Microchipping

• A full vaccination course, where age-appropriate

• Neutering

• Treatment for illness, injury or medical conditions

• Any additional veterinary treatment or medication they require

No cat is expected to simply move on without their health needs being addressed.

Our goal is to give every cat the best possible foundation for their new life.

Finding the Right Forever Home

Little Paws Woodcote believes that rehoming should be about the individual cat, not their appearance.

​

I do not rehome cats and kittens based on their colour, breed or looks.

​

A cat does not become more deserving because they are a particular colour, breed or have a certain appearance. Every cat has their own personality, history and individual needs.

When considering a home, the important things are whether the environment, lifestyle and family are right for that particular cat.

​

The welfare and best interests of the cat will always come first.

​

Kittens

Kittens will not normally be homed singularly.

​

Where possible, kittens will be rehomed in pairs or with another suitable kitten so that they have appropriate companionship.

​

There are exceptions where a kitten has arrived at the rescue on their own or where a litter/group consists of an odd number of kittens.

​

A single kitten will only be considered for a home where there is already a suitable feline companion residing in the household.

​

This is important for their social development, companionship and overall wellbeing.

 

Why We Cannot Take Cats From Homes

Little Paws Woodcote is unable to help with cats who are currently living in homes.

​

This can sometimes be difficult to understand, particularly when someone is struggling with their own cat and is looking for somewhere for them to go.

​

However, rescue space is extremely limited.

​

Every space occupied by a cat who already has a roof over their head, access to food and a safe environment is a space that cannot be offered to a cat who may be:

• Living on the streets

• Abandoned

• Without access to food

• Injured or unwell

• In need of urgent veterinary attention

• Without anywhere safe to sleep

There is a significant difference between a cat who is struggling within a home and a cat who has no safe home at all.

​

Because Little Paws Woodcote is a small, home-based rescue with limited capacity, spaces have to be prioritised for cats who are stray, abandoned and most urgently in need of a safe space and medical care.

​

We appreciate your understanding and the difficult circumstances that can lead people to seek help, but unfortunately we simply do not have the capacity to take owned cats into rescue.

 

Have You Found a Stray Cat?

If you have found a cat you believe to be stray, please do not immediately assume that they have been abandoned.

​

Many owned cats spend time outdoors and may travel further than expected. A friendly, hungry or confident cat can still have a loving family waiting for them at home.

​

Before contacting Little Paws Woodcote or another rescue asking for a safe space, there are important checks that need to be completed first.

​

Please check:

• Microchip: Have the cat scanned for a microchip by a vet, rescue or other appropriate organisation.

• Neighbours: Ask people living nearby whether they recognise the cat.

• Local groups: Post clear photographs in local lost-and-found pet groups and community pages.

• Missing pet reports: Check whether the cat has already been reported missing.

• Social media: Search local Facebook and other community groups for potential owners.

• Photographs: Take clear photographs of the cat so that potential owners can identify them.

• Observe the cat: Where safe to do so, establish whether the cat regularly returns to a particular property or appears to be being fed or cared for.

• Look for identification: Check for a collar or other signs that the cat may have an owner.

• Please do not assume that a friendly or hungry cat is automatically a stray.

If the cat is injured, seriously unwell or in immediate danger, please seek urgent veterinary assistance rather than waiting for a rescue space.

​

If, after completing the appropriate checks, the cat genuinely appears to be stray, abandoned or without a safe home, you can then contact Little Paws Woodcote.

​

A Small Rescue With Limited Space

​

Because Little Paws Woodcote is run by one individual from a home environment, there are strict limits on how many cats and kittens can safely be accommodated at any one time.

​

This means that unfortunately, we cannot help every cat who needs somewhere to go.

 

Saying no is never easy.

​

Every enquiry is considered, but the available space must be reserved for those cats who are most vulnerable and have the greatest immediate need for safety and veterinary care.

​

The rescue would rather provide a smaller number of cats with the proper care, rehabilitation and attention they deserve than take in more animals than can safely be supported.

​

As a privately run rescue and not a registered charity, there is no regular charity funding behind the rescue.

There is an adoption donation amount of £150 per cat and kitten adopted.

Since opening in October 2024, Little Paws Woodcote has helped over 200 cats and kittens.

Every one of those cats has had their own story, their own personality and their own reason for needing help.

​

Some arrived frightened. Some were abandoned. Some had been living on the streets. Some needed medical attention before they could begin their new lives.

But they all had one thing in common:

They needed someone to care.

Little Paws Woodcote exists because one person believes that cats and kittens deserve that chance, and because the LPW community continues to support that belief.
